Bone Spurs

Also called: Osteophytes — what that X-ray finding means

The report says 'bone spurs' and it sounds like spikes grinding in your joints — but a spur is actually bone's response to load and time: extra material laid down at joint edges and tendon attachments, more tree-ring than thorn. Here's the liberating part: spurs are extremely common, mostly painless, and usually NOT the pain generator even when pain exists nearby. The spur is a signpost about load history; the treatment targets the mechanics, almost never the spur itself.
