Ankle & Foot

Turf Toe

Also called: Big toe joint sprain

A sprain of the big toe's base joint from forced upward bending — the push-off injury of field sports on artificial surfaces. Deceptively serious for athletes: this small joint launches every sprint and jump, and inadequate healing costs a season of push-off power.
